Leadership wellbeing and resilience training with Global Citizenship Foundation

Sector: International Education & Development

The challenge

Leaders and changemakers within the education and development sectors often face intense pressure, emotional demands, and burnout risk. The Global Citizenship Foundation recognised the importance of supporting the emotional wellbeing of its global network—and sought a professional development workshop that addressed leadership wellbeing, stress, and resilience in a meaningful and actionable way.

Our approach

CAPE People Development partnered with the Foundation to design and deliver a high-impact resilience and stress management workshop, tailored for a global audience of educators, leaders, and professionals committed to social change.

Led by Lynsey Kitching, co-founder of CAPE People Development, the interactive online session brought together over 60 participants from across the world to explore:

  • The science behind resilience and emotional agility
  • Tools to manage stress effectively and reframe unhelpful thinking
  • Evidence-based practices for wellbeing at work
  • Small, sustainable steps to improve mental and emotional health
  • Real-time reflection to enhance self-awareness and leadership capacity

This session formed part of the Foundation’s global learning series and aligned closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The impact

The response to the leadership development session was overwhelmingly positive. Participants valued both the calm, thoughtful delivery and the practical, research-backed content

‘BRILLIANT presentation, thank you!’
‘What an incredibly helpful session, you’ve given us so much valuable content to reflect on.’
‘Thanks for your calming approach and calm voice.’
‘Loved your presentation. Please include me in your mailing list!’

They also shared powerful personal takeaways:

  • ‘It’s incredible to name and tame emotions, if you don’t, they become unwelcome guests at the worst times.’
  • ‘Supporting my resilience doesn’t have to take a lot of time, joy comes from micro steps.’
  • ‘I’m being more curious about what works and becoming my own best personal auditor.’
  • ‘I felt seen, and I’ll keep building my resilience tower.’
  • ‘I’ll use the tools I have more consistently and try to prioritise better.’
  • ‘Becoming aware, of challenges, strengths, and strategies, helps me respond instead of react.’
  • ‘This reinforced the need to safeguard my wellness and prioritise emotional self-awareness.’

The stress management training resonated deeply with attendees, sparking meaningful reflection and real-world application. Several participants requested the recording, resources, and further support, evidence of lasting engagement.

‘On behalf of the team and myself, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for such an insightful and thought-provoking presentation during today’s session. It was a privilege to host the session and I deeply appreciate the depth and clarity you brought to the topic.’ Lynn Wachira, Coordinator for Global Citizenship Foundation.

‘I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback from colleagues who attended the workshop. The session was described as insightful, practical, and deeply relevant.’

‘I also had the opportunity to reach out to Lynsey directly to have her speak at our organization and her professionalism was truly top-notch. She was warm, responsive, and clearly passionate about the work she does. It’s easy to see why the session resonated so strongly with our team.’

Why it matters

At CAPE People Development, we believe that sustainable leadership starts with wellbeing. This session demonstrated the value of integrating resilience training into broader leadership development programmes—especially for those working in high-pressure, purpose-driven roles.

It also advanced three key UN Sustainable Development Goals:

  • SDG 3: Good Health & Wellbeing: promoting individual and organisational mental health
  • SDG 4: Quality Education: embedding emotional intelligence in professional learning
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals: modelling values-led collaboration across borders

When people are supported to thrive, not just perform, they lead with clarity, compassion, and confidence. That’s what CAPE People Development exists to unlock.
