About Infrastructure Matters
Infrastructure Matters (IM) is a fast-growing consultancy offering strategic advice across transport, energy, waste, water, and property projects. Their advisers guide project teams through complex operational and stakeholder challenges, helping clients deliver nationally significant infrastructure across the UK.
As a founder-led business, relationships sit at the heart of everything they do. For IM, building high-performing project teams means investing in how people communicate, collaborate, and lead, especially in a fast-paced, client-driven environment.
The challenge: Enabling people to grow while delivering at pace
With rapid growth, new hires, and expanding project scopes, IM needed to ensure that their people could:
- Build fast, effective relationships with clients and colleagues
- Move between projects while maintaining strong team culture
- Step confidently into leadership even without formal training
- Hold conversations that support performance and challenge assumptions
Like many consultancies, their teams are technically excellent. But without structured development, even the most capable people can feel isolated or unsure when navigating difficult dynamics, feedback conversations, or leadership transitions.
That’s where CAPE came in.

Our solution: Coaching and team development for a growing consultancy
CAPE People Development partnered with IM to create a tailored blend of services that supported individual and collective growth, aligned to the business’s strategic priorities.
DISC personality profiling + feedback
We introduced DISC profiles for new joiners, supported by one-to-one feedback sessions. These tools helped people build self-awareness, understand their communication preferences, and learn how to flex their style to work more effectively with colleagues and clients.
One-to-one coaching across career stages
Through leadership coaching, we supported IM colleagues at multiple levels, from emerging leaders to senior managers, providing a reflective space to grow confidence, improve stakeholder management, and lead with clarity.
Participants used coaching to:
- Transition into account leadership roles
- Navigate team and project complexity
- Manage stretch and self-doubt
- Build their voice in senior spaces
Bespoke workshops to build capability in key conversations
We designed and facilitated practical, scenario-based workshops to improve feedback skills, boost communication confidence, and encourage a culture of both support and challenge. These sessions were grounded in real project dynamics and gave people tools they could use immediately.

The results: Growing talent, winning work, and having the right conversations
Supported by CAPE, Infrastructure Matters has strengthened its team culture while maintaining business momentum.
The impact includes:
- Confidence to win and deliver more complex, high-value projects
- People stepping up into leadership with greater clarity and impact
- The creation of a culture where honest, useful conversations are the norm, not the exception
Expansion into new service areas, supported by stronger internal communication and collaboration

Why it matters
In fast-moving, founder-led consultancies, it’s easy for people to get stuck in delivery mode. Leaders get stretched. Conversations get rushed. And development can fall off the radar.
That’s why strategic, people-first development matters.
With the right support, your people can:
✅ Grow into confident client leaders
✅ Navigate feedback and challenge with care
✅ Improve collaboration across fast-changing teams
✅ Feel connected, not just busy
And your business can:
✅ Win more work
✅ Build resilient project teams
✅ Create a culture that retains top talent
